WS-07: Workshop on Intelligent and Reconfigurable Antennas for Future Wireless Communication and Sensing

In the fast-evolving landscape of wireless communication and sensing technologies, the role of antennas has become increasingly critical. Over recent years, a variety of intelligent and reconfigurable antennas (IRAs) have emerged, ranging from movable/fluid antennas to holographic/metamaterial antennas and reconfigurable antennas. These advancements offer unprecedented flexibilities and reconfigurabilities in antenna position, orientation, radiation, and polarization, thereby providing additional degrees of freedom (DoFs) for designing more efficient transceivers in wireless communication and sensing applications. Compared to conventional antennas, the high flexibility in configuring IRAs presents enormous opportunities to unlock new dimensions for improving adaptability, resilience, and overall performance of future wireless networks. However, despite these advancements, the investigation of IRAs is still in its nascent stage from both wireless communication and sensing perspectives. Substantial knowledge gaps still exist in, e.g., characterizing performance limits, optimizing antenna configurations, and designing practical transceivers for IRA-aided wireless systems. Addressing these technical issues is crucial for harnessing the full potential of IRAs and realizing their envisioned benefits in enhancing wireless communication and sensing performance.

The primary objective of this workshop is to foster a vibrant exchange of ideas among bring together academic researchers, industrial practitioners, and other stakeholders engaged in this burgeoning field. By sharing the latest findings and presenting state-of-the-art results, we establish a platform for catalyzing collaboration and knowledge exchange such that the collective efforts from the research community will unleash the full potential of IRAs in shaping the future of intelligent wireless networks. Topics of interest for this workshop include but are not limited to the following:

  • Energy-efficient design and implementation of IRAs
  • Channel measurement and modeling for IRA systems
  • Performance analysis for IRA wireless systems
  • Channel estimation for IRA wireless systems
  • Antenna configuration optimization for IRA systems
